Ken's World
Haunted power plays, cursed bonds, and why Dark Gathering hits harder than you expect
Thank you for tuning in to another episode. Okay, they don't wanna see me.
SPEAKER_00:You can go ahead and hate me. Ain't no way you're gonna drive it. They don't wanna do it in the hill. They don't want to do this in the hill. They don't want to be changing that. It took a lot coming from the bottom. They was like Tony, yo, you such a problem. You so meduosa, you look and you got it. Suck like stone. See how you got it? Don't let it go to your head. Don't let it get to you, dog. They don't even know what you've been through before. Or who was in your corner when you was still broke? Kill them all. The killer will kill them all. I'ma treat it like a fruit, I'm willing to kill you.
SPEAKER_01:Yo, yo, yo. It's your boy. Ken Lewis. Hey y'all. Welcome back. We made it. We made it. I'm doing a uh episode on a Sunday. First free day. It's uh it's been a long couple of weeks. I've been missing you guys. Uh obviously I've been trying to get a little bit more information on uh some of these newer animes that just dropped. But uh there is one that I've been kind of just been more focused on and been more intrigued and uh obviously been you know surprised on how it took, you know, the turn that it took, and um from the beginning up till now, uh the season is obviously not done, but man, it's been intriguing. When I mean intriguing, I mean from left to right there is suspense and there's some thriller and there's some action, and it's just like it gets you on the edge of your seats. I know you guys are itching to know what I'm talking about. This amazing anime that has got me cultivated over here, and it is Dark Gathering Guys, let me tell you, Dark Gathering, if you have not watched this anime, please do not listen to this episode because I'm gonna be honest, I'm about to dive in now. From my point of view, obviously, you guys know how I do these. Uh, in terms of what is the scenario if you are a part of it. The same take I took for Attack on Titan, right? Um, this is kind of in the same realm of just that gory, right? But just on the opposite side of the spectrum now is a little bit more supernatural and a little bit more horror, right? Um, I wanted to do a different take today because you know, I'm all about the action, guys. Y'all know that I'm all about the gore, but I'm also about the storyline, and maybe if you don't have some action, maybe the storyline can carry the can carry the series, right? So this anime has both it gives you the action and it gives you the storyline. Now in the beginning, it kind of just starts out like your regular slice of life, but realistically, it's giving us everything. Like from opening scene, it just looks lame, and you think it's gonna be all about like you know, the sci-fi uh slash uh cults, uh, which is also in there, but you'll think it'll be a little bit more on the school-related stories, and you know, maybe a little bit of uh some legends that was out there. No, man. No, this anime cultivates spirits, uh warriors from past, uh lores, uh I mean anything you can possibly think of, they personified it. Not only have they personified, you know, history and you know, details on the person or the ghost itself, man, they're pinning ghost to ghosts against each other, they're ranking this stuff. So the protagonist is is Kentaro, if I'm saying that correct. And I'm gonna be honest, y'all. There's this little spooky kid that's like part of the whole show, right? Obviously, she's carrying this thing by herself, but it's she's just so monotone, like you you really you can kind of like overlook her because you kind of forget like oh like she's real. No, let me tell you, this girl is real, all right. Um, her name is Yeah, Yayo Y-A-Y-O-I so yeah yo, yayo, and some of that, yeah yo. Anyway, um she's all into the whole spooky cult type of things, but the basis is basically our first episode comes out and it's showing you like some weird goobly god-like scenario, spear demon scenario type of thing. Um, but basically, this little girl lost her parent to this like like godlike spirit, right? And so she saw it for her own eyes, and uh she has been on a revenge tear on basically one finding the ghost that took her mom because she feels that the mom is still alive, that the ghost is just using her, as far as like you know, like life essence or of the sort, but she still feels like in her heart that her mom is still alive. Um, in the process, though, she is yo, like she's going on this like huge hunt to gather the most powerful ghosts. Now, check this out though. So she has these things like ranked, right? And she keeps the majority of the ghosts in her room. Yeah, big bad. I'm talking about suck your soul out ghosts in her room, and she has them being controlled, like she has them all under control, like she has like maybe 40-50 ghosts in her room, yo, like it's crazy, and not only that, as the show progresses, she will pin one ghost against each other because in the manner of getting more freedom or getting more powerful. So if you get more powerful, I can use you here, and if I use you here, then you will have more ways of trying to escape. Like, she gives the ghost like ways to try to escape, but then lets them know who's the big dog around here, you know what I'm saying? So it's it's bro, it's a weird take. I I'm I'm gonna be honest. Like, as you're watching, you like you know, where are they going with this? But it's a lot going with this show, it's a lot going, but this boy Kentaro is kind of in for the ride, so his whole little pretense is he's been cursed. Okay, he's been cursed by a ghost, and so his family, uh, I think it's like a long line of like uh sorcerers or uh like maidens and stuff, you know. People, uh, I forgot it kind of like uh witch doctors type of thing, but they've been casting out ghosts like throughout their generation, family generations, and things like that. So he was like, you know, next to line, but unfortunately, he kind of got messed up and uh so he has like his fiber, like or like hair or something on his hand, but it's basically like his body fibers on the outside of his hand, and so you know when he touches it or anything touches it, it's like excruciating pain, it's crazy. So he has to keep like a glove on, basically showing, like you know, so he doesn't like be in so much pain, but the show's crazy because he's like a tutor to uh Yao Yayo basically. That's how these two meet and they team up, man. And this guy is like trying to run from this girl, and the more he sits around and tutors her, the more he finds out who she really is, and then you know, they kind of build a bond and then and the trust for each other, but there's a there's an X factor in this show. Um her name's Aika. Iko is like third person in the group, so it's three of them. You got uh Yeo, you got Iko, and you got Kitaro. Okay, um Iko is a little bit on the sadistic side. I'm not sure if I'm not sure if she's possessed or just playing crazy because I mean she gives us these these little minor blips in the show, and it's basically like she has a thing for Kentaro, like uh, or Kitaro, I'm sorry, not Kentaro, Kitaro. Uh she has a thing for Kitaro because I they both got cursed at the exact same time, right? So they were childhood friends, you know, that whole little gist. And when Keitaro has a power, I guess, or a sensitivity to spirits, he could he couldn't really see him. He's starting to see him now, where we at, but in the beginning of him knowing or feeling, he knew that something is wrong in the atmosphere, and he's able to sense that. And so old girl was basically like, Hey, he's cool, but he seems to be kind of awkward, you know, and I like the awkward types, so let me get a little bit closer to this guy, and yo, she got closer to him and realized he has a little bit of a quirk to him, and it also extenuated to the afterlife or the supernatural, so she was really, really intrigued with this guy. So, since since like I don't know, elementary school, I guess, like they were like an item, okay. And I'm not really sure if from the time of her kind of getting to know Kaitaru in a way of like you know becoming best friends or her having a crush on him, I think it's like in between of possessiveness, but just wanted to be curious on how far or which way his life can kind of go, and so there was a time where Kaytaru was kind of in the kid form, like elementary when he was younger, like he was trying to get away from uh like the statue, but that statue had a spear connected to that statue in that area, so he was able to sense that old girl realize like he's going through something, let me go help him. She went to you know how girls do put herself in danger, he sees it, tries to save her, and then blam they both get cursed. So they've been living out their whole lives from that. My man's been going through it because he thought it was his fault that she got cursed. She was trying to help him and realized that it was her fault in the first place, so she tried to help him stay with him, so he became basically like a neat, you know. So I'm giving you guys like the blow by blow, like personality. So he was a little neat, so he was he's a scary boy, basically. All right, she's all about the adventure and curious about everything when it comes to the supernatural and the occult. Okay, so as far as the background story, you get the base now. I go, I think, in my own words, a possessive crazy chick. Alright, like she just is bonkers for Kaytaro, she's going nuts for this dude, right? And it just became, I guess it grew into some type of uh obsession. And now as the story progresses, she gives us these weird ghostly blips, like she's possessed, but then she's not possessed, and then she's like scared because she's in these situations, and it's like yo, chick, like what side are you on? Like, are you really wanting to be here because of Kitaro, or are you just trying to be a weirdo? Like, we we don't know your angle, we don't know your angle. Yeah, just around, yo, because by the way, a uh Iiko and Yeo, uh, they're family. Okay, so Yeo also knows about her weird quirkiness and uh like what she does and things like that. She keeps it under wraps, you know what I'm saying? Like gangster, like as a as a family should, you know, saying cuzzle to cuzzle, like I got you, girl. Like, you know what I'm saying? We cool, we we we click it. I just need you with me though, because this some of this stuff getting kind of dicey, and I need like some some peeps to help me along the way, you know what I'm saying? So it's like uh yeah, um, keep doing my rebound, you feel me? Uh yeah, yeah, but it's crazy because it's a good little duo that they got going. So Ketaro's the last little piece to their little trio, and so Keitaro has his curse, obviously. So you got the background of all of that, and so he realizes like yeah yo, it's big dog in this, like she's out here really uh there you go, uh, exercising all these spirits and then making them come to her side by just mere control and showing who's master. He's like, yo, this chick is crazy. Don't know if I should stay with her or if I should like stay with her just to protect her. He doesn't know what you know what to do because he's been trying his whole life to try to get away from that, you know, basically what happened to him and I go and things of the such. So he's not too sure on what angle he should take. But as the story progresses, he realized he really can't get away from it, and it's because of Yeo that he's been getting out of some of these situations, like she's been saving bruh over and over and over again. So it's it's a it's a crazy take, man. Um, but this is where I feel like the meat of the story is like this is where it gets crazy. Where we're at right now, like I was saying in the beginning, like she Yeo got these ghosts ranked. You hear me? Like, she got them ranked. So each one she realizes, like, okay, she can this ghost can be useful for this and this and this and this and this and this. Now, as they go and search for these uh ghost-like scenario big badasses, excuse my French, um, she has a ghost on hand, like she has a ghost on hand for herself, and she has a ghost on hand for Ketaro. Meaning, like, if anything that were to happen, because these ghosts are so powerful that they can touch the physical aspect, trans like world, like into our world, that as they're searching for them, the ghosts that they are tugging to are being damaged, not them. So, in a way, this like she brings a ghost for like their natural force field, but it's also a good you know, omen of letting them know that hey, we're close, you know what I'm saying? It's crazy about some of these characteristic ghosts, man, and what they put together because yo, it had me on the edge of my seat, y'all. When I say this story, it's phenomenal, it's phenomenal. It is now this is awesome, okay. Imagine, guys, right? Imagine a world as we live in, and we are living our everyday lives, and we just so happen that we're late to work, and we go down this this alley because it's a shortcut right across, so that way we don't have to go our roundabout way. You go through this alleyway as you're creeping through, and you go and you're running through just to go ahead and you know regain some timing because you know you're running behind, you hear a pin drop behind you, and as you turn around, slap your head's getting chewed off by a weird ghost that so happened to have killed so many people in that particular spot for about three four hundred years that nobody even knew about. That's the type of world that is that you die off of the supernatural, the things that you cannot see and cannot feel, but they can see and feel you. That's some crazy stuff, y'all. That bro, like I'm just just eating in the cafeteria dorm, you know. I'm saying, just eating my lunch, and I'm being possessed because my roommate is into the occult, and he has this badass, excuse my French, ghost just illuminating above him, could be a ghost from his past, could be a generational chain of ghosts, because there have been you know in this show as well, like families that had generational ghosts, or uh like buildings that had multiple multiple murders, and they and those ghosts became like Jack the Ripper style killers, like bro, what type of world is this? So we go from one world of giants and titans and people not able to live past 15 to a world of living in a supernatural and not knowing when the death is following you, or you just so happen to have bad luck, or the death god himself you're fighting against. That's crazy, that's crazy. I mean call it what y'all want, man. Call it what y'all want because honestly, this whole little world can freak the crap out of me. Shoot, walk around and then boot a fart in your face, and then that's a cursed fart. So now you got some type of ghost disease that you never even heard of. And you're like, bro, all I'm trying to do is live my life, bro. I mean, what we what can we do, man? What can we do? Um I want you guys to know something. There's a couple of uh scenarios I would really like to talk about. If I can just uh here we go. Y'all, if I can say this right, friend ofin, friend of one, friend, friend of win, friend, friendren, friendren, friendren beyond journeys in. That's another one, another gem that just came out. I think they're up to like maybe six episodes, six or seven episodes, or something like that. Um, if you guys have heard of this one, this is a feel good action anime, like aspects of this show, it's completely opposite from the dark gathering. Because see, the dark gathering is heavy, it's real, the occult, and all that stuff. This one's completely opposite. This is like a friendly journey, um, and adventurers learning, growing, remembering their past, and uh understanding that their past can really teach you uh along the way and to have a better future, right? So uh Frenrin is basically a mage, like an elf mage. Uh, she was part of this heroes party. Um, as she was part of the heroes party, you know, elves tend to live for hundreds of years, right? So the aspect of time for them is different. So she was in a human heroes party. Um, she was the only elf. So as she she as she uh journeyed with the group and she learned to grow and love them, but she took for granted the time that she spent with them. She didn't realize this all the stuff that she did at the time, she was just living her life, living her time, right? Well, these guys, the other three, one was a dwarf, which they kind of tend to have the same uh lifespan as the elf, but they show their age more. Um, and then the other two uh were a uh humans, and so those two grew old, man, they died, and then you know the dwarf I think is still around, or he died, I'm not too sure. Um, but this is like as the story progresses, like like 80 years from the time where the hero party saved everybody and you know, conquered the big, bad demons, you know what I'm saying? And so it was kind of weird because she's still around, but something happened in her attitude and her personality of saying, like, wow, like everybody's gone, and everybody that I had you know respect for is no longer around me. So let's retrace my steps, you know, let's meet these guys. And so when she meets them again, she realizes like the love that she had for them was more deeper than she can ever imagine. And you know, there was like the next set, the next group. She started getting a student and uh the student of the dwarf, you know, and they three those three kind of just ventured together, and she's kind of just retracing the steps of the party, of the hero's party, and uh redoing what they did at that time because certain stuff that they had, it wasn't that strong, like she wasn't that strong, you know, 80 years past, so all she's been doing this whole time is studying magic and studying different types of magic. That's kind of her hobby, like her thing was I'm just gonna continue to travel and pick up different types of magics, and it's not like big bad magic, it's like a magic to make quilt or to make water or you know, helpful things to help people that the more that you know, the more that you can help. That's her philosophy. So teach this continue, but it's so cool because her student grows and watches her, and she realizes like how much her teacher is, you know, helpless but yet amazing, like um, and the dynamics on learning each other and trusting each other, and it's a it's a it's a good feel good. The student of the dwarf is not realizing how strong he really is, so he really downplays himself a lot, and uh it's pretty cute, guys. You know, um, first though, I want you guys to watch that dark gathering for sure. I mean, I must watch they're getting towards the end of the the series anyway. Um, I think they probably gonna have a season two for sure. I hope this is not like a one-done series because this is a really good show, they can really build on this. Um, but to take a break, you can do Frenrens uh Beyond Journeys In. And it's it's just um they it's like a nine out of ten for recommendations for sure. Like it's really good, like the story is really good, it makes you feel good, makes you sad a little bit too. You all know me, you know, like I I'm all about the feel-good animes. But if I want to watch the feel-good animes, like I like I like the real tearjerker, get you in your feelings, you know, make you think about yourself a little bit, make you kind of reassess, you know, where you are in life, uh, mentally, and how you and how would you have done and what you have done different that you felt that it would have been um either a different outcome or you feel like you could have just you know done it better the way they would have done it, you know. Um, on both sides, dark gathering gives you those scenarios as well. Like it's like, would you really want to go into that haunted house that you know it was being haunted for like over 150 years? Heck no, why would you do that, you silly kid? Tricks are not for kids, okay? Like, what's really good? I mean, think about this, guys. Like, why would you put yourself in that type of danger? Even if you don't believe in all this stuff, man, why would you want to put yourself in that situation? That's weird. That's weird. I mean, that's just me. That's just me. I mean, I I I'm all for it. Um I talked a little bit about Ragnar Crimson on the last episode. The uh pretense of that show is is really good. Uh action from the top from the top, manipulation, uh some tear-jerk moments already. Like it makes you think about your past mistakes. Like the time that you have. What would you do with the time that you were given? And if you had the opportunity to give what you have known to your past self, it's crazy, but the action is getting ridiculous. Um, you know, they dropped a new episode of Spy Kids. Well, Spy Family. I say spy kids because I was watching that with my uh with my uh friend's niece this past day, uh past couple days ago, so it's kind of still fresh in my mind. That's uh, but yeah, spy family. Um I watched a few episodes of that. I haven't really caught up to the current ones. Funny though, like funny, it's good. They continued it. I love how cute it is, how family oriented it is, but still give you some of that. Oh man. Uh, by the way, the mom, the ninja, the assassin, yo, she's dope, man. Like you just she's dope. Um, also, another one I've been kind of looking at. It's called My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned and S Rake Adventure. It is so cute, y'all. It's so cute. I mean, it gives you that slice alive, the family humor, um, the adventures, some action, some of that family loving good. If you are a girl who listens to my podcast, man, if you are a daddy's girl, this is a this is a must watch, man. It just makes you feel so good inside, so fuzzy. Um Pops is just your regular Pops, man. Uh, but he used to be an adventurer uh because uh of you know some unfortunate events. He had one of his legs amputated, got cut off. So um that stopped his adventuring days. Got a daughter in the process, daughter turns out to be a badass, excuse my French, and becomes an S-ranked adventurer, and she goes around and triumphs and tells everybody about how great her dad is, and you know he's a legend, and he got a name of the red ogre because he got the red ogre because his hair is red, so everybody's just thinking like he's just like this masterful dude. My man is just so calm, so chill, he ain't really messing with nobody, but he got skill though, he got skill, um, and then it they allude to it a little bit, you know, but he stopped on a very low ranking, so he just stays within his lane, like he just don't step out, man. Like he's just an even kill through. Uh, and I love it because you know, as you know, I be around a lot of fathers, and I see a lot of my father friends. Uh, you know, they're kind of like that with their kids, so it just makes you feel good. Like, there's some good guys out here, we're not all dogs. I just gotta say that too. Ladies, we're not all dogs, and all dogs might not go to heaven. By the way, great movie. All dogs go to heaven, amazing movie. If you've never seen it, uh must-watch for sure. A uh Judy Bloom film back in the 80s. Uh had some old stars on there, but the storyline technically is a kid's movie, but it's not a kids' movie, it's definitely a grown-up movie. Because if you watch it now, you'd be like, kids actually watch this. It's probably why the 80s kids got never mind, you know, talk with my brothers and his anyway, guys. It's been amazing. It's been amazing. I like where they're taking the new fall series. Uh, obviously, there's a couple of seconds and third seasons that's coming out. Um, but I'm loving the newer the newer animes that they just dropped, they're taking it a step further. The animations have been beautiful. So let's just give a good shout out to some of these studios. They've been working hard out here, man. So I want to I want to give that good love out there. So anybody who knows anybody who does animations or anything like that, who draws and man, give them boys a good hug and a good pat, man. Uh, people who tell stories is really look, listen, I hate to write. I I'll rather tell a story, I'll read, but I hate writing, y'all. I really do. So any person who can you know write down this story and make a character come to life, and then you got your illustrators, man. Just give them a round of applause, guys, because they definitely deserve that. Good love out there, good Japan's out there, man. They just pushing out some good products, man. Just keep keep up the good work. Um, for sure. I'm loving where this is going. Uh, by the way, too, nobody gives enough hype, but the Chinese mangas and the Chinese shows. I'm starting to kind of go into those a little bit. They're doing great. They're they're they're a fight scene. Man, it's beautiful. Some of those shows are it's beautiful. It's just really hard to to get to take to take the show so serious because you know, ch Mandarin is not made for like action. It just doesn't go along sometimes with their fight scenes, so it just kind of throws it off. But I'm getting I'm getting I'm I'm training my ears to to understand them and to understand the like the fight scenes with their voice. Yeah, yeah, it's it's been it's been hard, but I'm trying to open up my horizons because honestly, they got some gems over there as well, y'all. Um uh betweens I I think they have a better storytelling, considering that Japan has more fight scenes and more to kind of go off of. But I I I generally think that the Chinese side actually has better storytelling. Um, and they're kind of rivaling the action scene, so stay tuned for that. I'm gonna throw out a couple of uh recommendations. So just give me a minute. Let me let me filter through some of this stuff because I got a few that I'm going through right now. So let me get my feel, and I'll give you guys that good analysis next time for sure. But right now, I want you guys to focus on Dark Gathering as the number one, Friend Ren, Beyond Journeys End, number two, and what was the other one? The other one was oh, my daughter left the nest and returned as a S rank. All three of those, those last two are kind of you know on the feel-good side where Dark Gathering is real heavy, so definitely uh tune into those and understand that once you watch Dark Gathering, you're gonna want more. Like you really gonna, it's crazy how they kind of did it, but you're gonna want more for sure. But I digress. Um I think that's about it for right now. I really just wanted to get on. I just want to talk to you guys. I've been missing you guys. Uh, I had a lot to I still have a lot more, but those are like my top right now that's been kind of just keeping me going. Um yeah, just kind of just keeping me going. There's like maybe six others that I've been watching too. It's really hard to put it all together and then doing a a really good assessment summary on those because it's uh it's so much because you could get kind of confused. You know, if you watch so many shows, y'all, you get kind of confused, like you think like one protagonist is part of this show, but you it gets all jumble. But anyway, y'all, I love you guys. Thank you guys for tuning in. Um lot more to come. Like I said, uh, videos definitely on the way um and some more surprises for sure. So haven't really been sleeping on you guys, I just haven't been able to record the way I've been wanting to, but the day I had it, this is it. I had to take this a little bit of time to talk to you guys. But y'all, thank you for tuning in to another episode of Kingsburg. Now it's your boy King the whiz, and I'm signing that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
