Ken's World

Finding humanity inside the walls: why Attack on Titan’s first season still shocks, stings, and shapes how we see ourselves

KEN DA WIZ
SPEAKER_01:

Yo yo yo pinno capitalistical. Thank you. For tuning in to another episode.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm in the soul. Give me the unit. Scott, that's all that you got. That's all that I know. 155 with the problem. You can be a friend of me, an enemy. I know. I'm in my element ooh. Yeah. I'm in my element. Yeah. I'm in my element. I'm in my element. Yeah. I'm in my element ooh. Yeah. I'ma my element. Yeah. Keep that same in the cheek. I'm in my element ooh. Yeah. I'm in my element. Flow is like water.

SPEAKER_01:

Yo. Welcome back. Welcome back. It's your boy Kindle Wiz. Y'all, it's been a uh it's been a long couple of weeks. It's been a long couple of weeks. I think again. I say this every time we get on. We made it. Dang it, we made it. Whatever that's been going on, we made it. And why do I say that? It's because there are people who haven't. So let's just take that time to appreciate the minutes, the seconds, and the hours that we are granted every day. I love it. I love that we made it. We fought through the BS. Dang it. We are the selective few that was chosen to be here right now, right this instant. You gotta love it. Isn't that something to be excited for? Yeah. I mean, I'm excited. I speak for everybody else. I you know what? I'm excited for you because you're able to listen to this podcast to get a little bit of excitement, a little bit of joy. Come on. We made it. Um I want y'all to know this. There is so much to talk about in the world of anime right now. But I wanna I wanna I'm gonna backtrack for a second. I'm gonna reverse. I'm gonna reverse. I'm gonna reverse. I'm reversing because I want to talk about one particular one. This one particular one. It's a popular one, so it's all it's all current. Uh I want to give it a little bit of shine, even though it has it already has its shine. Attack on Titan. We're talking about the Attack on Titan. Now, just the first season. I just want to talk about the first season. The first season was an eye-opener for everybody. If if I want to stand corrected, I think everybody thought the same thing. One, revolutionize the way we look at stuff now. What y'all think? When it comes to illustration, presentation, story development, character development, plot twists, and by god, the violence. I mean the violence, whole nother level. Now let's just say for argument's sake, right? We live in that world, right? We live in the attack on Titan world, whatever that will be, whatever that whole makeup is that the that that show personified. We have no chance of actually surviving that. Surviving the Holocaust that happens every single day. Excuse me if there are any people that find that offensive, but it is a great illustration of damnation on people's lives. There is nobody that is safe in that world. You could be a flea and think you can scurry away. Nope, you got burnt, Lacinda. Because the dang old Titan sneezed on you. Crazy. But nah. I wanna break this up. I'm gonna break it up into three points. One natural viewpoint. Okay, natural viewpoint. Two the oh my gods. The oh my gods. And three, the wow factors. Okay, the wow factors. Let's go off the first one. The natural viewpoint that most humans look at when they look at this show is will you be able to survive? What type of person are you? Are you those people that look to the left, look to the right, and pray that that amount of violence doesn't follow you? I mean, because you're part of the the world, right? You're inside the walls. Now I would say this guys, if if anybody who hasn't watched this show don't listen to me yet, watch watch at least the first season. And um understand that it's a great show, but it definitely makes you think, for sure. Um but spoiler, spoiler alert for sure. Um, but you live inside these walls, you don't know nothing about it, you just know what you see every single day. You live in the everyday world. We as a human being of the of this natural world, we live in this world now, going about our lives and seeing all the crazy stuff that happens, right? Because see, now we're we're able to be uh you know, um we're able to access this type of information thanks to social media, thanks to the world wide web and people's phones and how it's connected to everything. So we're able to see a lot. Things that you know, um older generation, you know, when we grew up, we didn't see half of this stuff, so we wasn't really afraid. I mean, we were probably numb because we didn't know nothing of it, and then when it does happen, it was like, oh, it's crazy. What why has that happened to me? So when you look at this show, man, I don't know about you guys, I'm just gonna talk about me. What I say that they perfectly illustrated the wits and the smarts of human beings that live in a confined environment that is comfortable and easily accessible, America. Guys, I think we are the people that is inside those walls. Right? Come on now. We don't really know too much of what struggle really is. We, of course, and listen, when I mean by struggle, you know, not all of us have our parents, some of us was homeless, some of us are probably still homeless, but we're still able to get to certain resources when need be. May not be on the time we want it, but we're still able to have that access. Now you go to some of these countries, there's no access, even when you have the ability to get it. So put that into thought. We live in these walls, we go through our day-to-day, we talk to our neighbors, we laugh as children, we play, we mess up, we go home, we get in trouble. I mean, it is uh it's a universal feeling of just as long as it doesn't happen to you, you're okay. This is why I like Attack on Titan. It's not just because of the blood and gore and the action that goes on to it, which is cool, which is cool. But let's just say, for the simple fact that that is who we are as people that are people that is in our circle that is closest to us. Those horrible things will never happen to us. Those horrible things will never ever touch my family. God forbid. And then you wake up, and your mom done turned into a titan, and she done bit half the house. You're missing both your legs, and she's trying to eat you, and you're looking her dead in the eye, and she no longer sees you in that moment. The helplessness, the the frightening aspects, the embarrassment, the humility, humility, oh my gosh, the amount of shock that you're going through. I mean, it's it's it's ongoing. You know, it's it's something that uh we have to stop and think about. No, I'm not talking about the Titan aspect. I'm just saying, let's be grateful for where we at. The people that turned into those titans, they lost their moment, their shine. It's over for them. Dang! Come on, Ken. You gotta be so weird and dark and mystical. I don't know. But you know, I I I think I want to keep putting shine on the fact that we all struggle. We all struggle, we all have our ways of saying that there's no way out, and uh there's always a way out, our environment, our mental, our constituents, associates, our family, our circle all have a lot to do with how we mobilize in the time of need and stress. I'm a firm believer now. I wasn't always like this, but I'm definitely a firm believer of just reaching out and touching the next person beside you. What I mean by touching, a hug, a call, a yo, what's up, or hey girl, how you doing? Sometimes it's good to just check up on each other. Because the one thing I've seen that Attack on Titan really did highlight is unity and betrayal, hard on betrayal most of times. I mean it's it's a natural viewpoint on what life is like now, and when it's taken away, you feel like your whole world is crumbled down.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh my god, why does this happen to me? Oh, I thought I was exempt.

SPEAKER_01:

Nope, you're not, just like the rest of us, unshielded and afraid, especially when the spark starts to fly. Just keep that in mind, guys. When I say be grateful of where you at that moment in time. Uh second viewpoint. The oh my gosh. I mean, people blowing up, people getting hit by missiles, people's heads getting chopped off, babies getting stomped on, families getting stomped on, old couples that just saying effort, I ain't moving. Torn in half. The illustration, man, the amount of action, man. It was crazy. It was so crazy. I mean, look I shonna talk about the main guys, right? Just Aaron, Mikasa, uh, what's the other guy? Um, Aaron, Miss Mikasa, and uh dang it, I forgot the blind boy name. Uh he well, they were three different viewpoints, and the wow factors and and and and the oh my gosh, is it's just like it kind of tie into one, really. Aaron was like us, you know, the majority rules of human beings on this earth where we just live our day-to-day, man. You know, we get into mischief, and uh we forget to kind of check ourselves, you know, where we stand and what we thought we believed, and I mean he is the embodiment, embodiment of selfishness, right? Can we agree? Aaron is selfishness, good or the bad. Um I think they did pretty well when it came to uh trying to focus a little bit on his you know his mess ups and him trying to learn and and cope with the I don't know the the events that occurred that that led up to who he is now. Right? Um I will say this guys you can be mad at Aaron. We are Aaron. We are Aaron. What would you have done? You know, your your mom got eaten in front of you, your dad basically dipped. You figuring out that all you have is straight hatred for these titans, man. Doesn't matter who they are, but you have that straight hatred, and uh some of the stuff we could be like, I would never do that. Nah nah, ten times out of ten, you probably would. Guarantee. Why do I say that? I say that because we can't sit here and say that you ain't gonna be angry at no dang old Titans, bro. You just murdered your whole god dang old family, and then you found who it was. Grudge is second nature in this dang old show. It's just second nature. We I mean, me personally, I have a grudge. I can't hold a grudge but for so long. Takes too much energy, but they personify the grudges in this dang old show, right? Death, hatred, sorrow, despair. Hit all those points, man. Those negative points is really hard to hit sometimes. Why is it so hard? Because you gotta create something that most people don't even want to see, and that is themselves. You don't want to look at yourself in the in the in a time of despair and hatred, do you? If you do, you're probably locked up right now. Is you crazy? Crazy as hell. I mean, come on, I mean, just sit back and think about this for a second. Can we say that, you know, you're you're you're you're my best friends, you know. We in a group. I want to protect you guys. I want to protect you guys from the BS that's going on outside these walls. Oh, by the way, a colossal titan just came through and smashed everything, by the way. The life that we had before no longer exists. Food for thought. Destroyed your childhood dreams and memories. The people that you used to get up and mess with and be mischievous with, they're dead. You probably killed them. I turned into a titan or something. I don't know. Because you want to be a ball full of rage, can control your own emotions in the times that you do need it. That's just Aaron. Okay, Mika Sun, on the other hand, are the little bit more level-headed, uh, want to protect everybody. That she represents the ones that went through the strife, that knows the struggles, that didn't have a quote unquote silver spoon in her mouth, that came from the mud, that knew betrayal at a at a very early age. And she's trying to keep everybody safe. Trying to keep everybody together the best way she can. A woman a few words, a man of few words. Don't we kind of we know a couple people like that in our lives? You get that slickly feeling that you really don't want to mess with them because there is something in their eyes that show you that I have seen death, I looked them in the eyes, and I have no fear. But what I do fear is the little bit of crumbs and a little bit of time that I shared with the people that I felt that could be benefit beneficial to me. That scares me if I lose that. The one person or the two people, or again, my little circle. If I lose that, I lose who I am. That's deep. I love Mikos' character. Why? Because I kind of can relate to that a little bit, where you just want to hold on to the little bit that you got and become the best at it, because everything around you, you you don't care about, but you have these skills that set you apart from other people, that that gives you that respect factor that know that people know, like, not about to mess with you, yo, because you the real deal. So anything that you that you have, I'm not gonna mess with. People see that from afar, y'all. So that ain't even something you gotta talk about, you ain't gotta show nothing. If that's something that you really do hold dear, man, you're gonna exude that out your pores like water in Niagara Falls, it's just gonna flow. And they ain't even gotta say two words to you to see that. I mean, as the story progresses, yo, she becomes who's to say a breakthrough. Who knows? Who knows? I'm interested to see how that's gonna develop in this final season, by the way. Um, Armin, the guy who I couldn't, the name I couldn't remember earlier. Don't judge. Armin is that smart guy. You know, the one that used to get picked on back in the day, but then turned into a badass because we seen his struggles first, like face first, of how scared and feeble he was, but then when he grew up, he survived the trials and the tribulations of his life, he became stronger, he became the new Aaron, like the opposite. Because the values that he held dear to him, even in the time of weakness, made him the strongest one, and in fact, compared him to the commander. That's crazy, right? I mean, between him and Erwin. Who's better? Ain't gonna lie though, that speech that Erwin did gave me chills. The realest of all real speeches. To give up your life to save another. Can you do that? Can you follow somebody to death knowing you're going to die? What type of man you gotta be to pull people with you to the death hole? That's wild, man. To really think about these scenarios, right? So if I were to be placed in if I were to be placed in that world, I feel like I'm gonna be Connie. Has some chicken out moments, had some brave moments, has some oh my gosh, moments. But I st I stuck with my people though. I stuck with the people that were sticking with me. That wow factor, right? The wow factor to me, to me, of the whole show was it's amazing how human emotions can change in the blink of an eye, depending on the situation. Your situation, like I always say, is nothing better than that person's situation, or the one that's behind you, or the one that's beside you. You're no special than the next person. We all have our skills, we all have moments in our lives that we have to learn from. But there's only one of you. So why think you stand above somebody else? Or you could be just you could be squashed just like the rest of us. You don't have animantium skin, you don't have immortality, you're not able to get stronger through sunlight. You could be rich, but are you rich enough to really care about other people? And put yourself on the on the you know in the death pit every single day to fight for other people's injustice and not take any credit for it. Oh man. We all have skills, we all have destinies. You have to live up to what you feel like you need to live up to. We all understand that. You don't have to care for every single thing because that is a personal decision, that's your prerogative, but also. Don't have these pity parties, and you expect others to have pity parties for you. Because my life can be taken just like yours can. That wow factor allows you to realize you're nothing special to the next person. And we're both gonna lose and die the most horrible death. This show is amazing. I love it. Again, that violence, and let me tell you, boy, Aaron's Titan. Dope. Okay, dope. It's amazing. Once you start to kind of dive into that whole Titan character. Oh man, that's oh man. Dope. What a what a plot twist there. What a plot twist. There were so many dang on plot twists in this thing. You think you knew they're dead two seconds later. They died so fast. Every single episode was deaf. Everybody was dying. Nobody was saved. Maybe maybe a few times. I mean, I want to say that if I was in that world, for real, I would be Connie. I'm just trying to survive, bro. I don't need no Titan. Just give me the skills necessary to dodge these mofos and to take a couple of them out before I die. Dang it. He ain't about to trap me. He ain't about to give me something and have people trying to come after me and my family. By the way, I just lost my mom. She became a titan. She was on her back for days, starving. Had to kill her myself. Mind blow. Poof. Mind blow. The show's deep, man. Different characters come with different results. Put a little different zingers here and there. This final season is gonna be something that's gonna shake some people's uh beliefs on a lot. It's gonna shake mine for sure. Because I ain't gonna lie. I mean, did it happen to you guys, man? Like every episode glued me. I was glued to the TV. Sometimes I couldn't even watch the episode because I know it's gonna be something crazy. It's gonna be like blood and gore, but it's gonna be so heavy. It's just man, it's just be so heavy. It just wraps you with exhilaration and intense, like the suspense of it is like, whoa, the thriller, they did good. Take y'all time, don't rush it. Cause that movie Aaron being the founder, man. Listen here. That boy ugly as hell. Skeletors, father. Season one was great to kind of get you started. Uh put the characters in place. Um it just made you kind of made you kind of wonder. You know, Levi being who he is and being a stern person. Erwin being, man, my guy Irwin. Fighting in from the fight behind the scenes the whole time with a smile on his face. All in all, knew and uh knowing what the end result will be. I guarantee the man knew from the beginning that he was gonna die, but how he was gonna die and the way he was gonna die was completely up to him. 100% respect for that for that guy to not only leave the troops of your platoon to death, but to own it at the end, and still technically didn't die. Clinging to life, tough bastard. Guys, I just the main point of today's podcast. I don't want people to suffer alone. There's no point to suffer alone. Not anymore. There's ways of going around it. This is 2023, guys. It's a matter of fact, 2023 is almost over, by the way. Ain't that crazy? It's almost over. We're almost at Thanksgiving and Christmas again. What the freak? I want my brothers and sisters out here to know that there's always a way out. The world is mean. It would never change. But understand that whoever is closest to you, reach out. Let them know how they feel, you know, let them know how you feel. Because they could be feeling the same thing. Never mistaking yourself to say that you are the only one suffering. As the show clearly illustrates, everybody's suffering. Everybody's dying. No respect a person. The uh the love that you share for the next person can be shared and shared again. But when you sow despair and sorrow and and all the negative thoughts, that's also can be shared and shared again. Always remember that. The chain of emotions is always linked to something bad. But if you feed it with something good, eventually that chain can break and start anew. We gotta start somewhere. Let's make our own utopia, guys. We could build our own walls, or not, depending how you want to look at it. We could be free as a bird, but with some type of restraint, or be pent up, but also have a way to release, not to be bound all the time. To understand this show is to release your inner thoughts and not go into it and think it's gonna be just like every other anime. Because I'm I'm making Attack on Titan by itself, like it's on category by itself, because it's not like every other anime. I do the same thing with Death Note, by the way. Death Note is by itself because it just harkens on humanity's ugliness and beautifulness But you know the ugliness overshadows made out of play-doh, and a plastic crown from my the good spirited charge so never ever ever ever say that there is no way out. Alright, that's about wraps up today's episode. Thank you guys for tuning in. I love you guys, spread positivity, not negativity, and watch how the life around you changes. Alright. So it's your boy Kendall Wiz. And I am signing out. Peace.
